On October 23, 2024, the President and the AStA of the University of Lübeck invited people to the “Yalla Sharjah” information evening in the Audimax.
After welcoming the audience by the President and the AStA, the two universities were introduced through image films and a short quiz through which people could test their knowledge about the United Arab Emirates. Next came a lecture by Jennifer Hundt and Hauke Busch about the Lübeck Sharjah Dul Degree Program and by the architect Peter Jackson about the Emirate of Sharjah. At the end, all aspects of the partnership were examined in a panel discussion with lively participation from the large audience. Everything was discussed openly and controversially; the president of the university extended the scheduled discussion time in order not to block any expression of opinion. In addition to President Gabriele Gillessen-Kaesbach, the author and journalist Charlotte Kerner, the intercultural trainer Cornelia Jackson, who lives in Sharjah, Alexandra Seebode from AStA and Mohamed Hail, Head of the IoT research group at the Institute of Telematics and future coordinator of the Dual Degree Program AI section, discussed on the podium.
The discussion was moderated by Birgit Stammberger, scientific coordinator at the Center for Cultural Studies Research Lübeck (ZKFL).
After the heated discussion, we were able to continue the exchange and ask further questions over a large Arabic buffet.
