Graduation Ceremony 2025

We are proud to present our 2025 graduates! Congratulations to our exceptional Ph.D. graduates on reaching this incredible milestone.

Blue skies, classical brick Gothic architecture, and plenty of smiling faces marked this year’s graduation ceremony. The Mayor of Lübeck, Jan Lindenau,  along with the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Helge Braun, welcomed the PhD graduates in the grand hall of Lübeck’s famous town hall.

Following the speeches, photo opportunities, and a few refreshments, the graduates exited the town hall into the square, each wearing a straw hat and carrying a single, beautiful sunflower. After the obligatory celebratory hat toss, the graduates, their supervisors, and distinguished guests made their way to St. Peter’s Church, where the official ceremony commenced.

The University Orchestra accompanied the graduates' entrance into the church with Beethoven’s Egmont Overture. Speeches were given by Dr. Bernd Schwarze (Pastor of St. Peter’s Church), Prof. Dr. Helge Braun (President of the University of Lübeck), and Dieter Witasik (the artist behind this year’s graduation artwork).

The artworks were presented to the graduates by Prof. Dr. Jost Stenhäuser and Prof. Dr. Till Tantau. Finally, the University Choir performed a heartfelt rendition of the traditional Irish song An Irish Blessing by James Moore.

We are thrilled for the graduating class of 2025 and wish them all the best on their journeys ahead.
